UPS Gears Up for Holidays: Over 400 Jobs Up for Grabs in Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton
In a bid to bolster its workforce for the upcoming holiday season, UPS has announced its intention to hire over 400 seasonal employees in the Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton areas. This recruitment drive is part of the company's annual 'UPS Brown Friday' hiring event, set to take place this weekend. Nationally, UPS has set an ambitious target to onboard at least 60,000 seasonal workers.
To achieve this, the company will be hosting more than 600 in-person and virtual hiring events starting from November 3rd. This initiative is a testament to UPS's commitment to efficiently handle the anticipated surge in holiday shipments. Prospective employees can find more details and register for the virtual hiring sessions on the UPS website. Those unable to attend the scheduled events can still apply directly through the company's official job portal.
Theme Park Titans Merge: Cedar Fair and Six Flags Set to Redefine the Industry

Cedar Fair and Six Flags, two giants in the theme-park industry, have announced a merger that aims to redefine the regional theme-park landscape. The merger, valued at roughly $2 billion, will see the combined company operate under the Six Flags name, but individual park branding will remain intact. The deal is expected to close by mid-2024. On a local note, Dorney Park, under Cedar Fair, is gearing up for the introduction of the Northeast's first "dive" roller coaster in the upcoming year.
Bite into History: November 3rd Marks National Sandwich Day
Every November 3rd, the world celebrates National Sandwich Day, a tribute to the versatile and universally loved food item. The term "sandwich" is attributed to John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich, who popularized the method of eating meat between bread slices. However, the practice of sandwiching ingredients between bread has ancient roots, with records indicating that Jewish Rabbi Hillel the Elder adopted a similar method in the first century BC. The day serves as a reminder of the sandwich's rich history and its evolution over the centuries.
Embrace the Outdoors: Lehigh Valley’s Trails, Rivers, and Snowy Slopes
The Lehigh Valley, with its picturesque landscapes and rich history, beckons outdoor enthusiasts to immerse themselves in its natural beauty. The region boasts an array of trails, ideal for both hiking and biking, that offer panoramic views of sprawling vistas. Cyclists can traverse expansive rail-trails, which not only provide breathtaking river views but also pay homage to the area's storied past.
For those inclined towards water-based activities, the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers present opportunities for rafting, kayaking, and tubing. As winter descends, the valley transforms into a snowy playground, inviting visitors to indulge in skiing, snowboarding, and snow tubing.
The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor and The Link further enhance the region's appeal, offering a comprehensive trail network that connects various parts of the Lehigh Valley. Ultimately, the key to unlocking the joys of adventure lies in actively seeking it out, epitomized by the region's popular initiative, Tail on the Trail.

Southern Lehigh Girls Clinch Soccer Championship After Intense Season 🏆
The Southern Lehigh girls soccer team, after years of near misses, claimed their first championship title since 2019, defeating Whitehall with a decisive 2-0 victory. The District 11 Class 3A title game, held on a crisp Wednesday evening at Catasauqua’s Alumni Field, was a showcase of skill and determination, particularly from Southern Lehigh's nine senior players.
Freshman midfielder/forward Hallie Thomas and junior forward Ivory MoDavis each scored a goal, while senior goalkeeper Ava Foran secured the win with ten saves, ensuring a clean sheet against Whitehall. The triumph was a culmination of a season marked by significant challenges, including entering the playoffs as the lowest seed in their league's history.
Despite these hurdles, the team rallied in the final weeks, playing their best soccer when the stakes were highest. The victory not only marks a significant milestone for the seniors, who have long sought the elusive gold medal, but also sets a high bar for the program's future.
