Northampton County Grapples with Voting Machine Glitches on Election Day
In Northampton County, Election Day 2023 was marred by technical difficulties as voting machines experienced widespread issues, prompting the use of emergency paper ballots. A programming error in the county's ES&S ExpressVote XL machines led to a mix-up of names for two state Superior Court judges on the printed verification slips, causing confusion among voters. The digital results and machine-readable barcodes, however, remained accurate and unaffected.
The county's election officials and ES&S were both held responsible for the oversight. Despite the setbacks, the county judge allowed the continued use of the machines, with instructions to polling staff to inform voters about the issue.
This is not the first time Northampton County has faced problems with these machines, which were first used in the 2019 municipal general election. The current incident has reignited concerns about the reliability of electronic voting systems.

Last-Minute Magic: Bethlehem’s Christmas Village Stays Open for Shoppers!
Bethlehem, known for its vibrant holiday traditions, is extending a helping hand to last-minute Christmas shoppers. The city's Christmas Village, a festive marketplace of holiday huts, will keep its doors open until Christmas Eve. This extension beyond the usual closing a week before Christmas is a nod to the needs of the community, providing extra time for those seeking the perfect gift.
The holiday huts have become a seasonal fixture, offering an array of crafts, food, and gifts, all wrapped in the spirit of the season. The decision to remain open later is expected to not only benefit procrastinating shoppers but also the local vendors who have become synonymous with the holiday experience in Bethlehem.
Bethlehem’s Beloved Hawk Music Strings Together a New Beginning!
After a seven-month hiatus, Hawk Music has reopened their new location at 721 Linden Street in Bethlehem, under the new ownership of Jason Marish. The store continues its tradition of providing musical instruments, lessons, and repairs, with plans to expand its retail offerings. The reopening marks a continuation of the store's 50-year legacy and a commitment to serving the musical needs of the community.
Celebrate the Art of Espresso on National Cappuccino Day!
Coffee aficionados and casual sippers alike have reason to celebrate as National Cappuccino Day approaches. This day, dedicated to the frothy and warm delight that is a staple in coffee culture, is observed annually on November 8th. The cappuccino, with its roots in Italian tradition and its name possibly derived from the Capuchin friars known for their missionary work and distinctive brown robes, has become a global phenomenon.
The modern cappuccino, as we know it, owes much to the evolution of the espresso machine in the 1900s, which made the creation of this foamy beverage possible. Today, the cappuccino is a testament to the art of coffee making, with its perfectly steamed milk and rich espresso base.
To partake in National Cappuccino Day, enthusiasts can visit their local cafes to enjoy a cup, ideally served in a ceramic mug to enhance the experience. For those who prefer the comforts of home, investing in an espresso machine and learning the craft of cappuccino making can be a rewarding endeavor. The day is not only about savoring the drink but also about appreciating the history and skill that go into making a perfect cup.
