Bethlehem SteelStacks Ice Rink Returns, Bigger & Brighter for the Holidays!
In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the holiday spirit is set to glide in with the opening of the second annual SteelStacks Ice Rink. Scheduled to welcome skaters from November 21, the rink boasts a larger size than its inaugural year, promising more space for festive fun on the ice. The rink, measuring 50 by 120 feet, will host multiple 75-minute skating sessions daily, complete with themed nights and trivia on a big screen for an immersive holiday experience.

The rink is not just for those eager to lace up their skates; a viewing deck and an area serving food and holiday beverages cater to those who prefer to enjoy the ambiance without the slips and slides. This winter attraction is nestled at the base of the iconic Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces, providing a picturesque backdrop to the 31st annual Christkindlmarkt, which opens on November 17. The combination of the market and the rink is part of a suite of holiday festivities that include Christmas movies and traditions, all aimed at creating a cohesive seasonal celebration.

Bethlehem's Payrow Plaza is now home to a massive Christmas tree, a gift from a community member, set to be the focal point of the city's holiday decorations. The tree will be illuminated with thousands of lights in a ceremony later this month, complementing the citywide decorations that begin in early October. Another large tree will also be installed near the Hill-to-Hill Bridge, contributing to the festive atmosphere.
New Scam Hits Pennsylvania’s Most Vulnerable; State Treasurer Issues Warning
The Pennsylvania State Treasurer warns of a scam aimed at those who applied for property tax and rent rebates, with scammers seeking bank information for fraudulent direct deposit setups. The rebate program, aiding older and disabled adults, is a long-standing initiative funded by the Pennsylvania Lottery and gaming. Direct deposits are indeed used for rebates, but the necessary information is collected during the application process, not via phone calls. The public is advised to confirm any Treasury-related communications directly with the department.
Purple Power: Shining a Light on Epilepsy Awareness
November marks a significant period dedicated to enhancing public understanding and support for individuals with epilepsy, as it is recognized as National Epilepsy Awareness Month. This initiative, which has been observed since 1969 and officially designated by the US Congress in 2003, aims to dispel myths, prevent discrimination, and raise awareness about the fourth most common neurological disorder—affecting over 3.4 million people in the US alone.
The campaign encourages people to engage in conversations about epilepsy, a condition characterized by seizures that can cause involuntary movements, confusion, and anxiety. Activities during this month include sponsored walks, bake sales, and educational workshops, all designed to foster community support and fundraise for organizations aiding those with epilepsy.
The color purple, symbolizing epilepsy awareness, is prominently displayed in clothing and decorations, and landmarks are lit up in purple to show solidarity. Social media plays a pivotal role in spreading information and rallying support for this cause.
