Join the Fight Against Hunger: New Bethanyâs Turkey Drive Aims High
Credit: New Bethany - Facebook
In Allentown, Pennsylvania, the community organization New Bethany is gearing up for its annual turkey drive, a crucial event that aims to address the growing food insecurity in the area. This year, the organization has set a goal to collect nearly 1,000 turkeys to distribute to community partners and those on the waiting list.
The drive, scheduled for today at Coca-Cola Park from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a testament to the community's spirit and generosity, as individuals often donate multiple turkeys. Those unable to attend can still contribute by dropping off turkeys at New Bethany's South Bethlehem office or by texting to donate. Participants who bring a frozen turkey to the event will receive a 20% off coupon for the IronPigs Clubhouse Store.
Mack Trucks Strike Concludes: New Contract Ensuring Wage Growth & Benefits
The United Auto Workers at Mack Trucks have concluded a 39-day strike by approving a new five-year contract. The agreement, supported by 93% of the union members, includes a 10% wage increase in the first year, amounting to approximately 20% over the contract's duration, and maintains current health insurance premiums. The contract, which addresses local concerns, also introduces an 8.5-hour workday with paid lunch and measures to prevent outsourcing.
Allegiant Airlines Unveils Non-Stop Flight from Lehigh Valley to Orlando
Allegiant Airlines - Facebook
Allegiant Airlines is set to launch a new non-stop flight route from Lehigh Valley International Airport to Orlando International Airport on May 16. This addition is part of Allegiant's expansion in the region, following the establishment of its crew base at the airport and recent service launches to Denver and Melbourne. The new route meets the demand for direct flights to Orlando, a popular destination for vacationers. Allegiant is offering introductory one-way fares at $59 for early bookings.
Westgate Mall Redevelopment: From Demolition to New Dining Destinations
The redevelopment of Bethlehem's Westgate Mall progresses with the demolition of part of its interior. This phase paves the way for new constructions, including a Penn Community Bank, a strip mall with five food and beverage chains, and additional buildings for a McDonaldâs restaurant and a People First Federal Credit Union. The project, led by Onyx Equities, aims to revitalize the mall and enhance its community appeal.

National Adoption Day: A Beacon of Hope for Children of Foster Care
National Adoption Day, observed every November 18th, was established in 2000 to promote the adoption of children, particularly from foster care. Since its inception, National Adoption Day has played a pivotal role in facilitating the adoption of over 65,000 children.
The day involves various events to finalize adoptions and celebrate new families. Over 110,000 children in the U.S. are currently waiting to be adopted, highlighting the importance of this day in bringing attention to their needs.
It also aims to debunk myths about adoption and encourages people to consider adoption as a meaningful option for family building.
