Bethlehem’s Holiday Star Search: A New Tradition of Discovery and Joy

Bethlehem officials have launched a "Star Search" for the holidays, moving a 15-foot Bethlehem Star to a secret location each year. The initiative, led by the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, aims to encourage exploration and engagement with the city. Participants are invited to find the star and other significant stars around Bethlehem, taking selfies and sharing them with a dedicated hashtag. The star, made from eco-friendly sugarcane, is part of Bethlehem's efforts to create a fun and interactive holiday experience for the community.

A Leap in Firefighting Safety: Bethlehem to Use Eco-Friendly Foam

The Bethlehem Fire Department is set to replace its current firefighting foam, which contains harmful PFAS chemicals, with a safer, PFAS-free alternative by the end of 2024. This initiative, led by Fire Chief Warren Achey, aims to protect firefighters from health risks and prevent environmental contamination. The transition involves significant costs for replacing the foam and modifying the trucks, but it is considered a necessary step for the safety of firefighters and the community.

Revitalizing Northeast Bethlehem: Pembroke Village Set for Major Overhaul

The Pembroke/Stefko neighborhood in Northeast Bethlehem is undergoing a significant transformation, with plans to revamp the area, including the replacement of Pembroke Village housing units. The project, involving local and state funding, will focus on community-led planning, enhancing housing, supporting local businesses, and improving transit and parks. The initiative aims to create a vibrant, mixed-income community, with a focus on the well-being of its residents.
