The Answer to âDid You Knowâ Trivia:
B) Bethlehem constructed the first waterworks in America to pump water for public use
The Old Waterworks in Bethlehem, often referred to as the 1762 Waterworks, holds the distinction of being the earliest pump-driven public water system in present-day United States. Situated in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania's Colonial Industrial Quarter, nestled between Main Street and Monocacy Creek, this pumphouse is home to both original and replicated machinery. It gained recognition as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and an American Water Landmark in 1971, followed by its designation as a National Historic Landmark in 1981.
