Lutzi's Wins Big at Souper Bowl 2024 in Bethlehem 🍲🏆
ArtsQuest's Souper Bowl 2024, held at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, was a gathering of the Lehigh Valley's finest chefs and caterers competing to be named the best soupmaker of the year. Lutzi's Restaurant emerged as the People's Choice winner with its Cream of Cauliflower soup. The event featured a panel of judges and attendee voting across categories like meat-based, seafood, vegan, and cream-based soups. Notable winners included Palette and Pour, Bethlehem Area Vo-Tech, and Roasted Cafe. Additionally, the event featured a cooking demonstration by Chef Lee Chizmar, who prepared his renowned cauliflower soup. The Souper Bowl attracted a large crowd, including visitors from neighboring counties, all keen to experience the rich variety of soups offered by 12 participating local chefs and restaurants.
Quick Recovery Expected for McCarthy's Red Stag Pub After Minor Fire 🚒🥃
McCarthy's Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar, a beloved establishment in downtown Bethlehem, suffered a small fire in its utility room, causing minor damage and temporary closure. The fire, which was quickly contained thanks to a ruptured waterline, is humorously attributed to the ghost of Liesel Boeckel by the owner, Neville Gardner. The pub, situated at 534 Main St., is renowned for its Irish and British fare and a wide selection of whiskey. While the pub undergoes repairs to its waterline and equipment, along with cleaning for smoke damage, it is expected to reopen within a week. The adjacent Donegal Square gift shop remains open, having been unaffected by the incident.
Art Meets Age: Cedar Crest Students Brighten Moravian Village 🎨👩🎨
In a unique collaboration, art students from Cedar Crest College have adorned the hallway of Moravian Village in North Bethlehem with twenty-five artistic works, transforming it into the "Main Street Gallery." The exhibit, which includes various mediums like oil, acrylic, screenprints, and cast paper relief, is part of a long-standing tradition aimed at engaging the retirement community's residents. The recent "Meet the Artists" event provided an opportunity for residents to interact with the students and gain insights into their artistic journeys.
United Way of Greater Lehigh Valley Welcomes New CEO, Continues Legacy 🤝🎗️
After a decade of leadership, David Lewis is retiring as president of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley, marking the end of a successful era that saw the organization's revenue grow to $28 million. Marci Lesko, who has been with the United Way for 17 years and currently serves as its COO, will succeed Lewis as CEO. Lesko's deep involvement in the organization's various initiatives and her understanding of community needs make her a fitting successor. The transition is a significant moment for the United Way, reflecting both a continuity of vision and a commitment to furthering its impact in the Lehigh Valley.
