Downtown Bethlehem to Welcome Taller, Thinner Parking Structure 🚗🏗️

Source: Change.org

After a lengthy meeting, Bethlehem City Council has greenlit the replacement of the Walnut Street parking garage with a taller, slimmer structure offering fewer parking spaces. The decision, supported by a 5-2 vote, overruled the Historic Architecture Review Board's recommendation against the new design. Proponents believe the new garage will "right-size" parking availability and contribute to downtown Bethlehem's appeal, despite concerns from some local business owners and residents about its height and reduced parking capacity. The original garage, now demolished, was considered obsolete due to structural deterioration. The new facility will include about 527 parking spots and make room for a mixed-use development, with plans for residential units still under review. The project, costing $27 million, is expected to be completed by late 2025.

The Answer to “Did You Know” Trivia:

B) To coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglass (February 14).

Black History Month was established in February to align with the birthdays of these two pivotal figures in American history and the fight for abolition and civil rights. The other options are incorrect because: A) The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863; C) The Civil Rights Act was signed on July 2, 1964; D) The 13th Amendment was ratified on December 6, 1865, marking the official end of slavery in the United States.
